The
opening, also called Binding Wire, of a reed
takes into consideration the woven material
in addition to the number of strands to be
used in the opening. Different weaving patterns
require that the most possible strands passing
at the time of shedding have enough clearance.
1. To determine the center to center gauge,
divide 1 by the DPI or 100 by the DP100mm.
2. If you use 1 wire or yarn per opening you
must add about 12 to 15 % clearance.
If you use 2 wires or yarns per opening ,
2 x the yarn + 12 to 15% clearance.
If you use 3 wires or yarns per opening, 2
x the yarn + 18 to 24% clearance.
3. Deduct step 2 from step 1, this gives you
the theoretical Dent Steel.
